Sumeria (Iraq): Cradle of Civilization
As described by Berossus, an early Greek historian,
Oannes was a water creature who visited people
along the shore, where he taught ignorant mankind
the arts of civilization:
mathematics, canal building, agriculture, law,
music, writing, seed preservation and architecture.
Just as Vishnu/Matsya Avatar had done.....
Watered by the Tigris and Euphrates rivers,
Sumeria was a fertile area for man's development.
The Apkallu, or Seven Sages, were household figures,
their images buried in stone boxes beneath the floors of most homes.
They derived their authority from the Oannes beings,
the wise ones from the sea.
The "merman" and the apkallu were all beloved.
In a Sumerian image, we see both mer-people and priests
dressed in fish-skin capes.
In this image, from a National Geographic Magazine article,
we see the fish-skin wearers as healers.
This is understood to represent
the medical trade, overlooked by the demon of death.
Near the center are two fish-skin healers, attending a patient.
Here we have a being from the heavens
worshipped by people of the earth and attended by
a fish-skin caped priest.
EA, seated, is the God of the Waters.
Here he gives his gifts of healing waters via a Snake Priest.
Here, Usmu, the two-faced god
attends EA, who is protecting an earth creature
aiding an aerial creature, and surrounded by dolphins
who are all returning to him, bringing their gifts.

Among the oddities of Sumerian artifacts
are numerous figurines showing reptilian people.
Little is known of their meaning.
The fish-tail hat of this priest is a continuing reminder
of the power of the Oannes tradition.
After undergoing initiation in the sacred teachings of the time,
initiates were given carved gem stones. The two shown here
are among many that depict the Oannes beings.
Also depicted are the "mouth of Nommo" and the star Sirius...
Found in a palace ruins in Nineveh,
King Ashurbanipal reclines in a bower, drinking with a visitor.
Note his tail....or lack of legs. He is tied onto his couch.
(Nineveh was the city Jonah went to after being swallowed by the whale,
to preach against their worship of a Bi-form God.)
