Military Dolphins and Whales
"Tacoma", a dolphin trained by the US Navy to search for mines.
Tacoma was transported to Iraq with five other
dolphins to help clear the harbour of Umm Qasr.
She immediately went AWOL for her first 48 hours...
Tuffy, the first dolphin trained by the US Navy.
Tuffy is shown working with a diver outside
the SeaLab underwater habitat.
Dolphins are given "achievement awards" by the Navy.
This means nothing to a dolphin
and is evidently done for human motives.
Not all Navy trainers are in the military.
Some trainers are hired on civilian contracts.
Military Beluga Whales
The US Navy does not acknowledge the use and training of Beluga Whales.
Look closely at the SeaCo pens in San Diego harbour
and you will see Belugas in some pens....

and several have swum to freedom
at their first open-water opportunity.
